A predatory company awaiting to take advantage of Chicagoans by lying and selling them low low-quality furniture.

WOW, this company needs to be sued along with their partners in crime Guardian. First, both these companies are unethical and, in my opinion, UN-American. To make a very long story short, I bought a 5K bedroom set ( Regency Collection) 3 years ago from the Rockford RoomPlace and I also bought the best warranty they had at the time.

Well, My headboard leather is peeling and is becoming brittle. Anytime you touch around the areas that are peeling, the leather falls off. This is just not happening in one area, put is starting to pop up all over the headboard and footboard. The peeling starts off small then becomes increasingly bigger.

1st step was to call Guardian and submit a claim. My wife took care of this part and was rudely denied by Guardians claim department. Guardian refused to look at the problem and refused to help in any way.

2nd step was to call The RoomPlace and explain what happened. The Rockford RoomPlace basically said there was nothing that they could do and advised me to contact the corporate headquarters.

3rd step was to contact corporate headquarters in which the suggested that I send complete pictures of bed and head board and a description of what the problem was. After waiting several weeks for a email or call back, I called corporate headquarters again. This time, the CSR stated there is nothing that The RoomPlace could do for me and that it was my problem.

Here is the email I sent to Corporate:

Hi,

I am emailing you today because of a problem I am having with my bedroom set that I purchased on 06/03/2014. Over the last month, the leather on the headboard is starting to peel or flake off and is getting to the point where if you just touch the leather around the peeling area, the leather will just flake off. My first step when I noticed the defective leather was to contact the warranty company. I purchased the best warranty available; therefore, I thought it would cover the problem with the faulty headboard leather. Unfortunately, when my wife talked with the warranty people, they were very rude and abrupt. The warranty company basically told us that they are not covering our claim and that we need to contact the Room Place where we purchased the furniture. My second step then was to contact Jim Reinders, the sales Manager in the Rockford Illinois Store where I purchased the furniture . I explained to Jim the problem I was having with the peeling leather and how my wife was treated by the warranty company. Jim explained that this matter would need to be addressed by Corporate in which Jim gave me the phone number to The Room Place Corporate offices. When I called corporate, I talked to a Customer Service Representative and explain what had happend to date and the problem I am having with the leather on my head board. I was told by the CSR to email pictures and a brief summery to the email above and wait till I receive a response.

First, I would like to say I have been told by numerous people throughout this process that if I would have read the fine print, it would explained that peeling or cracking leather is not covered by the warranty or the manufactures warranty because of the time frame. My point is that the material is defective therefore the leather is peeling and cracking because of faulty material. Secondly, when someone spends over 5K on a bedroom set, they would expect such furniture to last longer than 3 years and be covered under the extended warranty when purchased. And my third point, If the Room Place believes that this issue ( peeling/cracking leather) should not be covered in any way, then The Room Place is knowing selling sub-par furniture ,that they know will fail, at extremely high prices. Therefore, my story needs to be told on twitter, Facebook, and on all social media platforms to inform the public about my experience with The Room Place and the type of furniture that they sell. Thank you and if you need any further information or need to contact me please call or email.

Thank You,

Scott West

Horrible Experience

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The deliver service that you use is horrible.. Just throw away the ENTIRE deliver service department. My order was scheduled to be delivered on a Tuesday between 9-1:30 pm at 1:20 pm I received a call stating that somehow my furniture was damaged by the driver and that I needed to be rescheduled. Which it was re scheduled, for that following Thursday between the hours of 8:30 - 11:30 am again I took off work to receive my furniture. At 10:30 am I received a call from the driver stating that he was 45 min away. By 11:20 I had not received a phone call or anything so I began to call the driver (whom english was extremely broken so communication with him and trying to understand where he was, was extremely difficult) who stated that he was outside my home which was not true we later figured out that he was in Chicago 45 min away from my home due to a "glitch" in the system that sent him the wrong address. ( Which could not have been true due to the address being correct on all of the confirmation text sent to my phone, even from first delivery attempt.) At this point I'm extremely livid because as I stated before I took of work to receive my furniture for the second time. I began to contact the store and Ms.Eubacks the manager of the deliver department Whom apologized and stated she would refund my deliver fee and ensured that my furniture would be delivered the same day now between the hours of 4 - 7 pm. Again, I'm waiting 6:45 pm no phone call from anyone I call the driver back I didn't get an answer I called the store and the office manager was just as perplexed as I was he went out of his way to try an figure out what was going on even putting a phone call in to the driver himself ( which the driver stated he knew nothing about making another delivery attempt that night). At this time I began to call the 630783**** number spoke with a Representative whom had to put me on hold for a while to contact the driver and figure out what was going on, she came back ans stated that the drive was 45 minute away from me. Make a long story short I didn't receive my delivery until after 8 pm that night. For a company that has been in business for years and has a reputation for good quality service the level of service I experienced is unacceptable.

4 months and still no recliner

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

It has been 4 months since we ordered our couch that came with a free matching recliner. We chose to wait about 3 weeks for our delivery to come all together, they had said parts were out of stock.

3 weeks later we only get the couch and not the recliner or rug, we were told it was still out of stock and it would be in in 2 weeks. Lets just say, we have had over 5 different phone calls from the room place pushing back our delivery of both the rug and the recliner. About 2 1/2 months into waiting we finally cancel the rug purchase and tell them to forget out it. Now 4 months later we still don't have our recliner.

All they tell us is that they warehouse didn't have enough in stock to support the free recliner sale and we would have to wait. Its just ridiculous. Every time we ask to speak to a manager about it they say they can't do anything. Sure we could cancel it, but it is free.

My husband is convinced the room place offers free items, that they cannot provide in a timely manner so they get you into the store to buy. What a scam.

The Room Place - Loss of A Grandparent
The Room Place - Loss of A Grandparent - Image 2
August 1, 2018 To whom it may concern, I need to make your company aware of the lack of customer service that you provide. I purchased a full-size room-saver bedframe in white from your Arlington Heights location. The first delivery date available was July 21, 2018, I was out of town, so the next available date was July 24, 2018. I scheduled off work to be there to accept the delivery. I then received a call that one of the pieces was on back order and deliver would then be Thursday July 26th. I confirmed with the customer service center multiple times that I was guaranteed to receive a call 1 hour prior to the delivery arriving. I had arrangements all set up for a friend to be at the house, but she needed the time to get an Uber there. Now for where the major issues come in. My 95-year-old grandfather was put on hospice on Tuesday July 24, 2018. I have been by his side since his health started to fail. Things took a turn for the worse on Thursday July 26, 2018 and we were told it would only be a matter of hours at that point. I received a call from the delivery guys about 3:30pm stating that they were in my driveway. NO CALL 1 HOUR BEFORE AS PROMISED!! I quickly said my goodbyes to get to my house for the delivery. Upon arrival to my home, the cab of the truck was on the concrete portion of my driveway and they delivery guys were laying in the grass. I asked if there was a note to call 1 hour beforehand and they said, “Yes, but we were close, so we just came by”. I explained my situation and received a half-assed, sarcastic “sorry” from one of the guys. I was trying to get out of the house after the delivery when we noticed the bottom left drawer does not fit/close properly. I called the customer service number right away. After explaining the entire situation and now the broken door, the service rep put me on hold. During that time on hold, my father called to let me know that my grandfather had passed. I hung up with him and was STILL on hold. The service rep came back on the line to me sobbing. I explained to her that The Room Place just took the precious moment away from me of being there for my grandfather during his last breaths. I have been there for my other grandparents passing, and The Room Place stripped me of this honor, privilege, and respect. No one can EVER give me that moment back. The man that was there for me since birth is now gone and my last memory is being forced to leave his bedside because your company could not have the respect to follow specific instructions. I am absolutely disgusted at the Room place and how this all was handled. As I said above, I confirmed multiple times and had arrangements in place, so I didn’t have to leave. I also need to know when The Room Place can send out a concrete cleaner to remove the oil leaks from the concrete section of my driveway. These are FRESH oil drips, and neither my significant other or myself park our cars in this area. The only vehicle that was there to make these oil drips was The Room Place delivery guys.

This review seems like she was going through a very tough time and had a lot on her plate . Its too bad they had to take it out on the store.

I have been buying for the last 15 years from this place and aside from a fake leather set peeling everywhere (my dog didn't help either) I have had no other issues.

Sorry for your loss but next time let the steam blow before you bash. These reviews are suppose to be helpful!!!!

This review IS helpful. The Room Place could not follow simple instructions that were set in place PRIOR to the passing of my grandfather.

I am not a spiteful person and have actually never filed a complaint like this before. However, when there is NO communication and an extream lack of compassion, I won't let that slide. Had they shown compassion at the time and offered to help in any way due to the circumstances and their fault of not following instructions, this review would not he been written. The "steam" had already "blown off" before this was written.

But hey, thanks for bring it all up again at Christmas. You obviously have nothing better to do.

Furnture delivery delay - uninterested sales person

We ordered furniture on Jan 1st and were told that it would be delivered by the 20th. We just received a call from the salesman that the shipments haven't been received for the last two weeks and that furniture wouldn't be available for delivery until Feb 6th. He offered nothing other than basically you can take it or leave it. He didn't offer an apology or even to waive the delivery fee for the inconvenience. We spent over $1,400 and are still without furniture. I can't believe it. I am truly discussed that I am being treat like it doesn't matter and no one cares. What happened to customer service? Does my business not matter? I guess not.

Original review May 31, 2018
About 4 years ago I purchased a leather/fabric mixture power reclining love seat. Shortly afterward, since we were happy with what we had purchased, we went back to the store and purchased additional furniture for our living room. After a little over a year, the finish on the loveseat, started coming off of the back of the seating area (where your head would make contact with the fabric) leaving what looked like a dark black hole. I contacted The Room Place and was told this type of fabric was not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty or the additional purchased warranty.
Getting nowhere with Room Place, I contacted NBC’s - NBC Respond’s. Within 30 days we were contacted by The Room Place and was sent a voucher for the amount we paid for the loveseat.
We went to Room place in McHenry, IL and purchased a more expensive ALL LEATHER loveseat. After about a year after purchasing the piece, I contacted the extended insurance company about the problems with this piece. The seat that is used the most has collapsed to the point that it is two to three inches lower than the other seat. This is visibly noticeable. When you want to get up after sitting, it is a struggle, you are sitting in what seems to be *** in the seat.
The front of the recliner has now dropped down to where it is touching the floor when in the closed position. The front of the other seat of the piece is one to one and one half inches above the floor.
I contacted the insurance. They sent two people to look at the reported problem and left my home saying nothing to me other than I would be contacted by the office. After a week and a half of not hearing from them I called and was told that the padding in the piece had been compressed from being sat on. Again, I was told that this was not covered by the insurance.
I then went to the store I purchase the loveseat from. I talked with the person who sold me the loveseat, a manager, and was told that it was from being used. Words to the effect that it was basically used more than it was desighed for and that it wasn’t covered by the manufacturer’s warranty or the additionally purchased insurance.
So here I sit after spending about $1400.00 on a piece of furniture that did not last two years with no hope of any help.
Even more than the quality of the piece of furniture is the waste of money spent on the additional repair insurance. The insurance is absolutely worthless,
The Room Place furniture store will not see me or any of my money in the future.

HORRIBLE SERVICE

Ordered at the store. was told bedroom frame was unavailable, but would have it in 2 weeks. I was ok with that. day before delivery I get a call saying I can't get it for at least a month. left messages for a manager 3 times, sat on hold for 30 minutes another time. no one calls me back. Stuff gets delivered. At this point I am already exhausted of calling and no call back. sitting on hold. I get another call 2 days later talking about it is on back order still. Come on !! SERIOUSLY !! I can't return, since I will get hit with the fee. even though this is not my fault. I don't think a manager needs this much time to call a customer back. maybe they do this thinking I will go away. I am not going anywhere and I want what I ordered in a timely matter as promised.

I bought the reclining sofa and its protection plan (by Guardian) in November 2017. The right side of the reclining back of the sofa was broken in 3 month. I called the store for repair but was told it was not covered by the manufacturers warranty. I called the Guardian and again was told it was not covered by the protection plan. When being pursued to buy the protection plan, I was told the plan had a good coverage for failures and damages. When calling for repair, I was refused while they hadn't even seen the sofa for an evaluation about the failure or damage. Big mistake! HUGE! The protection plan is a joke! Dupped again

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Once again I've been scammed. Why do I keep going back.

Over the last 10 years I have bought furniture from The Room Place for every room in my house and I have NEVER had a purchase that has gone smoothly or without difficulties, misinformation or just plain lied to. I am so done this time. NO REALLY I'M DONE!!!! I bought the warranty for my furniture and was suppose to get a refund if not used after 5 years.

ok I thought it was a good deal .... NOT SO MUCH!!! they don't tell you that if you get the refund you have to spend $499.00 or more to be able to use that refund. Well That was the first thing that pissed me off.

so we decided to buy a new couch I called and reminded them that my warranty was due for a refund and they said they would take care of it and I would receive it in a credit card form that I had to spend at the store. Ok So I bought a couch and the couch was over $500 so I meet my $499 and over for the purchase. Had the couch delivered and a day later received my refund. So I took the card into the store to have them apply it to my new couch and was told since the furniture was already delivered I couldn't use it toward that purchase.

ARE YOU FREEKIN KIDDING ME!!!! ARE YOU FREEKIN KIDDING ME!!! They knew I was waiting on my refund because the salesmen even checked on my refund to see where it was. ONE DAY after it was delivered and I couldn't use it.

UNFREEKIN BELIEVABLE. Then I asked to speak to a manger and of course no one was available. I gave my information to the sales manger and she told me that the store manager would be in, in two days and she would call me to sort it out. Well Since I didn't get a call, I called the store and LOW & BEHOLD........

wait for it........the manager won't be in for another 2 days and the sales manager wont be in until the weekend. That's it!!!!! I AM SO DONE. I will also post this on my face book page, my instagram, BBB and a couple other sites that you can post complaints.

This is ridiculous and they need to teach their salespeople to stop lying to customers.

BTW this is the Store in ROCKFORD ILLINOIS. BEWARD!!!!

JUJU ROOMPLACE / GUARDIAN I really don’t agree with your explanation of why this would not apply to the warranty. It is a liquid stain.

That’s the point. I read reviews about your warranties and it’s all true. You all find a reason not to return or acknowledge the warranty customers purchased. You add small things to the warranty in hope that the customer misunderstand or forget.

Example: (Register your furniture after you have had it five years to get your money back) there is a great chance a person will not remember that. Why not just register when you get your items? Like any other warranty would say. Also, your warranty money would be an in store credit only which, you are trying to force a person to open another account with the company in order to benefit from their $250.00 AND whatever you purchase it has to cost $999.00 and up.

WOW!!! What a scam. It’s not fair that you don’t give the customer a choice to buy something else or just get their money back.

After what you all are doing I wouldn’t want to buy anything else from room place or any store that offers this kind of warranty. Maybe I can talk to a lawyer about this situation or call the news people to report how dishonest and unfair your company is.

Extended warranties are not necessary for furniture.

Under very few circumstances are they even marginally honored and I've never even heard rumors of a refund.

They sold me junk!!!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

We purchased our sectional in November! We should have known from the beginning there would be problems after 4 different delivery dates were changed.

After $4000 and 18 months of owning this "quality" furniture, the springs are broken, making the seat sag, and springs are also poking through the back rest, cutting anyone that is lucky enough to slide their hand accidentally between the cushions. The couch cushion has a about a three foot tear, also due to the springs sticking out. Imagine how sharp these springs are if they can do this to leather! We had to put Gorilla tape over them to try to keep from getting cut and it tore right through it!

We purchased the extended warranty that the salesman told us covered EVERYTHING! Big mistake! HUGE! Not only was that a lie, but the extended warranty is outsourced to some other group of clowns.

After waiting over a month after my complaint, it took the 2 clowns they sent over 20 minutes just to flip the couch upside down just to look at it. They tore off part of the backing, looked at it for four seconds, restapled it and said someone would call me in 7-10 days. After 2 weeks of not hearing anything, I called them, and they apologized that the two clowns were suppose to leave a card with their number and I was supposed to call them. Obviously, since it took them 20 minutes to flip a couch, they "forgot" to give me the card.

Really? They had one job...hand the customer a card! They didn't ask me to sign anything either. After an extended period of time, the woman I am talking to tells me that it is not covered because it is normal wear and tear.

How are springs sticking out of a couch and broken in the seat of a $4000 couch normal wear and tear? The couch is only 18 months old!!!! Am I silly to believe that it should have lasted longer than 18 months? By the Roomplace saying that it is "normal wear and tear" is them admitting to me that the couch was of terrible quality and it was made to last 18 months.

We have couches that are over 20 years old in better condition. Again, it has only been 18 months! This truly is a buyer beware! The salesman lied about what was covered, (should have read the pages with the minuscule print instead of trusting him).

I feel robbed from these people! After posting on Facebook, within one minute I heard stories of the same nature. This place needs to be shut down before they screw more people out of hard earned money!

Worst quality furniture out there. I would have been better off purchasing from a garage sale or Goodwill...no disrespect to Goodwill, they have better quality!
